Batting for my Daughter
Hello, Welcome to my first attempt at blogging. This week has been the first full week back at school for my children aged 11 and 15. Already I'm at the start of a crisis that could have long term repercussions.
My daughter, Daisy the 15 year old, started an IT course in year 10 and has completed the first two of four units. The school has struggled to teach the course so she has had to put in much of the effort. Now they have decided to abandon the course and go back to the one they were teaching two years ago. Result Daisy will be doing the two base units of that course instead of pushing onto the more interesting, to her, parts of the original. In short she will not be doing four IT units but essentially the same two units twice.
Tempted, as I am, to take the cynical view that it'll be easy route to stack up qualifications it's really curbed her enthusiasm. It'll only be someone with knowledge of IT qualifications that will spot it....but IT has been the only thing Daisy has shown an interest in!
After a few days wringing our hands I've written a letter and my wife delivered it by hand on Friday. Three copies; addressed to the Chairman of the Board of governors, the Head Teacher (Principle) and the Head of IT.
Events
Daisy saw my wife walking into the school to deliver the letter and within ten minutes, the Head of the IT Department came into her lesson. Not to talk to her but to the teacher of that lesson and show that teacher the letter. Daisy watched on apparently invisible.
I've told my Daisy to beware of that teacher, it's like in the Godfather....if she asks for a meeting...she's the traitor!
This morning my son, Rory aged 11, went to a local gym which is running induction courses for kids. He was acknowledged by the School's Head Teacher (Principle) who had her children at the same session. He doesn't think she knows his name.....not yet anyway.
Thinking about
I've been looking into Skype. I can't understand it calls are free...how do they make money?
House
I was late planting tomatoes and although the crop looks good most of them are still green.
The rail that holds the shower needs to be replaced because the clip that holds the shower is broken. It's impossible to replace just the clip so I've bought an entire rail. That was 3 weeks ago. Not only I am buying things I don’t want it’ll take much more time to fit it all!
World
I saw a news item about the proposed “clarification” of the application of the Geneva Convention article 3. John McCain was against it. A man who has decency written through him… somehow I don’t think he’ll ever be President.
Are Americans really about to be wearing the black hats in Westerns?

I've got two sons, 11 and 15 - and know where you're coming from!
An American living in England, I can tell you that people think we've been wearing black hats for a long time.
I don't have answers, but think we Aemricans need to treat the rest of the world the way we say we treat ourselves.
Thank you for your comment.
I'm still struggling with the mechanics of the site.
There's a heading "about me" but I can't find out how to put anything in it.
The wife keeps hinting I should be fixing the shower rail and get off the computer....
