Don't swing, just let the ball pass

A reply to the letter came mid week. We are still undecided over what our next move should be. A Deputy Head Teacher, Curriculum replied. The gist of the contents was to appeal to our cynical side. “Please do not be alarmed” it said 4 qualifications are still “possible”.
It also contained some details of how the work Daisy did last year was being assessed. At least we now knew it was being considered. It was graded at “just PASS” but there would be sessions to help her improve her mark before it was submitted to the exam board in…..June 2007.
No dates for the promised sessions. My guess is next year, as near June as they can get it. Once some of the kids find they have failing grades they will want real help…..they don’t want to be dragged into providing that now!

My angst is based on not wanting to fail Daisy but realising that the 4 qualifications will give her the options next year. The letter described the original course as “unwieldy”.

I’m forced to accept that the school will not back down and start providing the course. I just need to find a way to break it to Daisy that there’s no point carrying on, see Events below.

It looks like this is a ball I shouldn't hit.

Events

Daisy talked about our letter to her main IT teacher, Mrs Bowles. She thought she might of heard about it but didn’t know anything. Daisy told her the reply mentioned that Daisy’s planning section was poor in one of the units. Mrs Bowles paused and thought, “ actually I didn’t mark your work”. That was a shock because she had led the entire class to believe she had done all the marking. Finally Mrs Bowles added “ tell your father to back off, it’s not him that has come to this school it’s you”.

Rory went to his first Rugby practice. He spear tackled a player with the ball. The boy was winded and looked shaken. For the rest of the game the opposing team threw the ball away every time Rory lined up to tackle. I’m not sure how keen he’ll be when he’s the one taking the hit but at 5 feet 6 inches there aren’t many other 11 year olds to worry him. He loves the WWE and this is the nearest he can get to being John Cena.

Thinking about

I’m still not decided on Skype. It’d be of most benefit when I’m away from home. Trouble is if the wife has a problem with it….I’d be away from home.

Work

I spent Monday and Tuesday at a customer helping them rationalise parts so that the same parts ran on Line 1 and Line 3. Great, thank you they said.
We need you to look at Line 3 in the next few weeks. The work they want to achieve would be best done by changing the part I’d just got working on Line 1. We looked at each other and decided not to notice that it meant we wouldn’t have the same parts on Line 1 and 3 after all.

House

I came home one night to the news that they’d been an accident in the garden. Oh no, I thought, my tomatoes. Rory “ it wasn’t me, it was Jamie, he takes things too seriously to play sports in the back garden”.
The main casualty was a broken window. I picked up the glass and boarded it up until we can get the glass sorted out. The tomatoes didn’t escape and there were a couple of broken stems.
There are still too many tomatoes that are green, see photo.

In-Laws

It's my brother-in-laws BIG 40 this weekend but he's not keen on doing anything special. The wife, his sister, said to him on the phone the other night " your outlook changes when you hit 40. It's the realisation that there is less of your three score years and ten left than there is to go". "What are you talking about?" he asked. "You'll see.....anyway what do you want for your birthday?" she said. Then repeating his answer "Mounatin Bike stuff....for you? oh". No mid life crisis to come then.....

Americana

The opposition was strong enough to force a better piece of legislation in regard to the treatment of prisoners.
The point I’m missing is that “thousands of American” lives are wasted every year due to the illegal drugs trade. Why is there no will to up the game and get some of those “folks” in jail. The irony is drugs money is now finding it’s way to terrorists. Never the less it’s good news.
Hold that order for black Stetsons!

The 36th Ryder Cup has started in Ireland and I hope that none of the bad mannered booing takes hold.
